In Australia the most damaging termites are Subterranean Termites.

These unground dwelling termites can cause serious damage to your property.

There are many speices of subterranean termites but the most damaging in Queensland are Schedorhinotermes intermedius  and Coptotermes acinaciformis.

These subterranean termites dwell in colonies at the base of trees, stumps or underground. These termites like moisture. They forage for there food through tunnels and can get through cracks in concrete and invade your house, yet the nest could be 100ms away. One in two properties will be attacked by termites.

Hints to prevent Termite Attack

  • Have an inspection carried out every year to make sure that they have not invaded your home.
  • Due to termites liking moisture, make sure that the drainage on your property is adequate this include AC systems, Hot water Systems and out door taps. If there is a leak in you house get it fixed as soon as possible, this moisture can attract them.
  • Make sure there is no timber from your house touching the ground this includes Patios, Stilts, Fences and retaining walls.
  • Your concert slab needs to be exposed all the way around the house. If the slab is not exposed these areas are considered to be high risk.
  • Remove all loose timber laying around the house as this is an attractant for termites.
  • Ensure that all foliage is not touching the house and retaining walls.
  • Your sub floor needs to be ventilated and dry.

If termites are found leave them undisturbed and contact your pest managers.
